The renowned and grand Midland Hotel boasts spa treatment and leisure facilities every bit as charming as the building itself.

The Spa at The Midland is at odds with the bustling streets just metres away – a tranquil oasis at the heart of Manchester city centre.

On arrival, there was calming music, subtle lighting, soothing aromas, and soft grey velvet seating – everything you’d expect and more from a luxury spa.

Comfy slippers, plush robes and towels were on hand, so the relaxation process could start immediately.

Staff were softly spoken and polite, which added to the serene atmosphere. Before the treatments commenced, there was a briefing on exactly what each of them was about. There was an opportunity to select your preferred oils, scent and feel-wise, making the experience much more personal.

Relax in Manchester – Face and Back Ritual is the perfect treatment for hard workers who need time out from city life. The treatment combines gentle exfoliation and a relaxing aromatherapy back massage with a face and scalp massage. This helps to melt away any tension and leaves skin smooth and radiant. There’s also the option to upgrade all the treatments on offer at The Spa. Relax in Manchester, for example, can be upgraded with a conditioning hand or foot treatment.

The second treatment I opted for was one of The Spa’s specialities – Signature Serene Sleep. It certainly does what it says on the tin – within moments, a lovely slumber washed over me. This treatment is a simple yet effective; delivering a deeply restful and unique experience. It features a hot stone aromatherapy back massage and a rose quartz crystal facial, and finishes with a soothing scalp massage. The treatment can be upgraded to include hands and feet for an extra touch of luxury.

Afterwards, there’s the chance to use the pool and Jacuzzi facilities, as well as the Himalayan salt sauna, steam room, and shower.

Before leaving, you can spend time in the relaxation room. If you’re in need of a nap, there are an array of comfy single beds to sleep in, complete with curtain dividers for genuine ‘away-from-the-world’ time, or some contemporary relaxation pods – suspended from the ceiling and ideal to chill out in. If you’re looking for a quiet chat instead, there are private rooms containing cosy sofas – perfect for group discussions over complimentary cucumber and pineapple water or herbal tea (options include beauty, refresh, relax, or detox).

The Spa at The Midland is sophisticated and relaxing, a hidden retreat just off one of the city’s busiest streets – perfect for girly getaways or romantic weekend breaks.
