Inside the grand building that is The Midland, right in the heart of Manchester, you’ll find the stunning Afternoon Tea Room – from whose windows you can observe the hustle and bustle of city life and, of course, enjoy Royal Afternoon Tea.
A step up from your traditional afternoon tea, the ‘Royal’ serves up a glass of cool champagne alongside an exciting array of finger sandwiches, cakes, tea and scones.
The selection of deliciously elegant sandwiches we enjoyed, included: Free Range Duck Egg on a Brioche Bun; Honey-baked Gammon and Mustard; English Cucumber with Gin and Apple Chutney; Chicken and Mushroom; and, our personal favourite, Prawn and Crayfish on Spinach Bread.
Beautifully decorated cakes and scones were also on the menu, the latter available in sultana or lemon and pistachio flavours as well as plain.
The list of teas was endless – from conventional Breakfast to more unusual brews. We opted for White Elixir; known for its slimming and beautifying properties, it was an obvious choice!
I’m rarely satisfied by an afternoon tea, but this was something entirely different – filling, flavoursome, and – with added bubbles – wonderfully fancy.
