At the OrthTeam Centre, we offer fast-access consultations with our experts who have trained to develop the highest level of specialisation in their chosen area, which includes all aspects of orthopaedics, neurosurgery, peripheral nerve, neurology, pain management, rheumatology and sport and exercise medicine.

OrthTeam Centre patient Jean Ellis, 72, decided to self-fund for surgery with Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon Mr John Leach due to being in so much pain that she became a prisoner in her own home.

Jean explains: “A spinal disc had protruded and was pressing on my sciatic nerve, causing severe back and leg pain. It became too much to bear; I couldn’t go out of the house and was unable to drive.

“I wanted to start living my life again and didn’t want to wait months on end for treatment. I decided to go private and was lucky enough to be able to afford to pay for my procedure. I was quickly seen by Mr Leach and even had surgery a week earlier than originally planned as I was in agony.

“I’m delighted to say that my procedure was a success and I’m now back doing the things I love, like going for long walks. My advice to anyone who is suffering in pain is that if you can self-fund for treatment, do it – you won’t look back!”

Mr John Leach adds: “After Covid, there is a great deal of work being done by the NHS to try and reduce elective waiting times for surgery in England. At present though, the majority of my work in the NHS is for emergency or urgent care. Self-pay private care may be an option for some whilst we work to tackle the backlog.”
