How to plan an unforgettable Valentine’s Day for your loved one

As we come to the end of January, many of us will be thinking ahead to Valentine’s Day. Whether you buy into the holiday or not, it’s still a great opportunity to spend time with your special person and show them how much you care.

If you’re worried about the toll on your purse, don’t be. Valentine’s Day can be as extravagant or as modest as you like; the most important thing is that what you do reflects you both as a couple. Before planning something, it’s a good idea to think about your partner’s love language and what they find meaningful. From there, you can plan any of the following things.

Presentation night

Something that works particularly well for long-term couples is a presentation evening. This is a great way to reminisce about the significant moments in your relationship and remember the wonderful moments you have shared.

Maybe you recently got engaged, welcomed your first baby, or went on a life-changing holiday together. All these moments deserve recognition and a presentation night will remind you about all the things that make you great as a couple.

Weekend away

Nothing says uninterrupted quality time like a weekend away. Again, these can be as decadent or understated as you like, but wherever you go, make sure you plan things for just the two of you. The hecticness of everyday life can mean that we miss spending alone time with our significant other.

When planning your weekend away, factor in something really special, like a fancy dinner or drinks in the city. Why not treat yourself to a new evening dress and flaunt it on your date night? This will make it a real occasion!

Gifts

Gifts are a great way to mark a special moment, and nothing says ‘forever’ like a piece of engraved jewellery. If you know your partner is hankering after a certain piece, make it personal with their name, a heartfelt message, or even an in-joke.

If you can’t think of anything to gift them, treat them with an act of service. This is particularly meaningful for those who speak this love language, so offer to perform a household chore one day a week, surprise them with a sparkling clean house or design a spa evening for them in the comfort of your own home. Sometimes, relaxation is the best gift you can give!

Cook together

If you both just fancy a night in, make it more than your average evening in front of the telly and cook a delicious meal together. Treat yourselves to something you don’t necessarily eat every day, buy your ingredients in advance, pour yourselves a generous glass of wine, get the tunes playing, and have fun whipping up a gourmet meal.
