Hobbies. We’re told from a young age how hobbies shape our lives and unless we’re forced into them by parents, we often don’t find our joy when it comes to locking in a hobby that matters most. Hobbies are supposed to help with downtime and relaxation but there are hobbies out there that make us move more and get fit at the same time. Sometimes, it’s these hobbies that spark whole new appreciation for moving but there are others out there that make us think more clearly and logically, too, such as chess!

If you are seeking out a new hobby you need to know what it involves, from the commitment to the cause to buying a new BMX to go mountain biking with. The hobby you choose is going to matter and you should only choose a hobby that makes sense for you. If you hate exercise, skating probably won’t be a hobby for you but painting might be. If you’re stuck for ideas, keep reading, because we have some hobby suggestions that will change your life if you’re game enough to try.

  1. Sewing. A calming hobby, sewing comes under any crafty and creative hobby that you want to take on. You can learn to sew with a machine or by hand with embroidery, as there are so many options to choose from. Either way, you learn an entirely new and useful skill that you can put effort into. Imagine making your own clothing and wearing it. When people ask you who you’re wearing, you can say you!
  2. Running. Pounding the pavement is not for everyone but some people out there truly learn to love the movement, the motion and the feeling of slapping their feet into the floor as they go. It can be exhilarating to learn to run and once you have it down you will really be able to immerse yourself into the community. If you can, get some help on a good running shoe before you get started so that you feel prepared.
  3. Painting. Calming and soothing, painting is going to be a life changing thing for you if you choose to take it up. The best part is that there are several kinds of artists out there, meaning that you will be good at it no matter how it looks.  The point is to put a brush to paper and make a move. Test out colours and lighting and move it until you get the perfect, pretty picture for you. Eventually, this hobby could lead to you being in galleries; who knows?
  4. Cycling. Whether you want to learn tricks or you want to learn how to cycle at a height, it’s a hobby you should try if you want to feel the earth move beneath you. Buying a brand new bike and helmet is often enough to encourage you to get out there and feel the air flying through your hair as you go. It’s an exciting hobby. Get involved!
