Jason Slack is Head of The King’s School, a co-educational day school for pupils aged 3 – 18. With a new 80-acre campus in Prestbury, it offers state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor learning facilities and is currently ranked in the Top 5 Independent Schools for academic results in the North West (The Sunday Times).

What’s a key skill every student should have?

Resilience is more important now than it has ever been. Being able to stay focused in the face of challenge and stick at things when the going gets tough is essential to being a good student and for life in general. Resilience is one of the ‘learning habits’ that we actively focus on developing within our pupils, starting with our Forest School lessons in the infants and continuing all the way through to helping our Sixth Formers get ready for life at university.

What is a recent highlight of your role?

We have just had our Year 13 Leavers’ Ball, and seeing these remarkable young adults and their journeys of personal growth and transformation makes me feel really proud. They have all contributed so much to our school community and now head off to start a new chapter equipped with the character and skills they’ll need.

What makes you most proud?

Moving the School to our new campus in the middle of a pandemic back in 2020 is something that I’ll always be incredibly proud of and which demonstrated, by example, resilience as a key skill for everyone.

I’m also incredibly proud of the accolades we’ve received since moving here, including for our Sports provision (ranked 32nd in the UK’s Top 200 Sporting Schools) and our pupil Wellbeing Award.
