Beauty Bonds: A Guide To Glues For Lashes, Nails And More

Adhesives play an important part in many beauty treatments from applying lash extensions to waxing away body hair. In this post, we’ll delve into some of the different glues used in the beauty industry and how to choose the right solution for each application.

Eyelash glue

When adding false lashes and extensions, you need eyelash glue. These adhesives come in various different formulations including latex-based and latex-free glues (for those with allergies), and clear and dark formulas.

Investing in a high-quality glue is recommended to avoid eye irritation and lashes falling off. Salon-grade glues are typically designed to dry in seconds, are waterproof and can last all day without causing any harm to one’s eyes. Use an oil-based remover to help remove lashes gently and reduce damage.

Nail glue

Nail glue can be necessary to use when using press-on nails or making nail repairs or other nail enhancements. Never use super glue for nails – instead, use cyanoacrylate-based glues that dry in seconds and that provide superglue-like adhesion while being skin-safe. Adhesive tabs and stickers can be used for short-term wear of press-ons. For longer wear, consider gel glues with added vitamins.

Preparation is key when using nail glues – always clean the nail bed before application. Use a thin layer of glue and apply at night to allow time for it to cure. It’s also important to always work in a ventilated area.

Wig adhesives

You can also buy specialist adhesives for securing wigs and toupees. They come in liquid, tape or spray form – and are often silicone or water-based for easy removal.

Tapes are generally a good option for beginners as they are less messy. Glues can provide a stronger bond, but require more careful removal (always use adhesive removers). If you have a sensitive scalp, look into hypoallergenic wig adhesives to avoid irritation. Scalp protector barriers can also be used to prevent damage to the skin.

Depilatory wax

When it comes to hair removal, depilatory wax acts as an important adhesive for sticking to hairs and pulling them out. This adhesive comes in many forms including hot wax, cold strips and sugar-based pastes. Hot wax is typically used for removing coarse hair, while sugar-based pastes are seen as a gentle and natural option.

Using depilatory waxes correctly is essential for preventing burns and ingrown hairs. Always test on small areas of skin first to check for allergies. Apply strips in the direction of hair growth and rip against it for smooth results. Use aloe vera to soothe the skin afterwards.

Choosing the right glues

When choosing beauty adhesives, always opt for reputable brands in order to reduce irritation. Make sure that you follow instructions carefully and make sure that you are using the right type of glue for your needs (for example, in the case of nail glues, some are designed for long-term use, while others are for short-term use). You may be able to find tutorials online on how to use certain glues, or you can even look into professional training.
