Do you consider yourself an ultra-social person? If you do, this blog is for you.
We take a look at some of the jobs that will fit your personality perfectly so you can enjoy the lifestyle you want. Many people get into jobs because they think it’s what their parents want them to do, but they don’t really think about their particular characteristics or traits. Ultimately, they wind up unhappy because they are in the wrong place.
For your personality, if you self-identify as somebody who’s extremely social, it’s actually easier than you might think to find careers that really suit you. Here are some of your options:
Events management
If you go into event management, you will be dealing with people all day long. You have to continuously negotiate with vendors, attendees, clients, and other stakeholders. This is true if you are working in the corporate or non-profit sector. You’ll design conferences, trade shows, and retreats, and manage other bookings, all while inviting high-profile speakers and facilitating networking spaces.
The job doesn’t sound simple, and reality isn’t. Many people get a Bachelor of Events Management before even attempting it. Real qualifications prepare you for the type of work that you might be doing. Ultimately, though, it matches highly social people because it requires a mixture of top-tier communication skills and client management. You need to be able to command a room full of professionals and guide them to have the best possible experience.
Non-profit gala and fundraising director
You could also look into a similar role as a non-profit gala and fundraising director. Your job is to orchestrate charity auctions or deliver high-end donor dinners. The strategy here is a little different from conventional corporate event management. You have to keep one eye at all times on revenue generation and how you can facilitate it as part of your role in the non-profit organisation.
This particular job requires high levels of skill and emotional intelligence. You need to be an empathetic person who doesn’t mind sharing stories with guests or constantly mingling at Friday night dinners.
Experiential marketing manager
Switching gears slightly, you could also consider becoming an experiential marketing manager. This role is suitable for highly sociable people who like being creative and setting new trends.
Rather than running digital ads online from a computer, you are physically up close and personal with prospective clients, showing them what your particular product or service could offer them. Many experiential marketing managers spend most of their time going to festivals and product launch parties, where they meet dozens of other people. They have to be physically present to watch how the public interacts with the company’s product or service, constantly talking to consumers about their experiences to collect data and information.
Luxury hotel or guest relations manager
You could also look into becoming a luxury hotel or guest relations manager. These professionals are responsible for taking care of guests and making sure that facilities meet all of their needs. They offer high-end, service-oriented, personalised itineraries and oversee the theatre of the guest experience.
This option is suitable if you’re the sort of person who loves hosting aspects of events management without being tied exclusively to a temporary stage setup. You have the entire facility to roam and can also benefit from bonuses for high performance and customer
Public workshop facilitator
What about if you’re the sort of person with an educational vibe and you want to transform people’s lives? You could look into becoming a public workshop or retreat facilitator. The idea here is to lead multi-day workshops or wellness retreats to provide life-changing experiences to clients.
Obviously, there’s a lot of work that you’ll have to do in the background. Your role will be major, mainly managing venues and designing schedules. You may also be a host and even a speaker at some of these events, especially if you have specific expertise that can help people.
This role matches highly social personalities because you’re responsible for maintaining proper group dynamics. You also need to break the ice and ensure that rooms full of strangers leave together feeling more like tightly knit communities.
Talent buyer
Finally, you could explore the option of becoming a talent buyer. These professionals work with music venues and festivals to book artists and negotiate performance contracts. You are the bridge between the artists’ management, the production crew, the venue, and various marketing teams. Because of this, you have to have fingers in every pie and understand how all of the relationships work individually and together.
