If you’re like most people, then you’ll love travelling.
And also if you’re like most people, then you won’t travel nearly as much as you’d like to. While we’d all like to be jet-setting around the world as much as we can, the reality is that our jobs, finances, and energy levels mean that most of us only get to travel once a year or so.
There are ways to increase the amount of time you spend exploring the world, however. If you’ve continually got itchy feet, then look at adopting the strategies that we’ve outlined below. Put them all together, and there’ll never be much time in between adventures.
Look Local
When most people think of travelling, they think of some far-flung destination that has a culture that’s radically different from what they know back home.
Yet while those might be your preferred types of trips, they’re not the only ones available to you. It’s much cheaper and straightforward to organise a travel adventure near your home. When was the last time you visited another UK city, for example? Or, for that matter, even your own city? Playing tourist in your home city can be a lot more fun than you might expect! Simply book a hotel and do what other visitors to your city do.
Easy Camping Adventures
Love nature? You might dream of taking a month-long trip through the Canadian Rockies, but don’t forget that the UK also has plenty of natural scenery to offer, too.
Becoming a regular camper is a great way to feel like you’re travelling much more — and what’s more, it takes next to no effort at all. If you have an outdoors-ready vehicle, such as a 4×4, then you’ll have the perfect vehicle for going on outdoor adventures. Simply add some 4×4 accessories that provide storage for all of your camping supplies, and all you’ll need to do is drive to your favourite campsite, pitch up, and enjoy the adventure. Regardless of where you live, you’ll have some excellent campsites within easy driving distance, so it’s not unfeasible to think that you could go on a new camping adventure every few weeks.
Use Your Free Time
You’ll have a fair amount of paid time off from work. If you love travelling, then make sure that you’re using it! It can be enjoyable to simply spend time at home, especially during the summer months, but if you love travelling, then you’ll be happier if you use the opportunity to go elsewhere.
You can also look at making the most of the other periods that you have off work, too. For example, the long weekends that occur when there’s a bank holiday offer a good opportunity to take a mini-break. You could fly somewhere on the Thursday evening and come back on Monday evening — or even very early on Tuesday morning and head straight to the office.
Save Money
It’s not just a perceived lack of time that prevents people from going on as many adventures as they’d like.
Money is also a factor, especially in this day and age, when costs are rising and belts are increasingly tight. If it’s money that’s holding you back, then look to see if you can direct some money to a savings account. You might not be able to travel immediately, but if you begin saving now, then taking a trip in a few months could be realistic.
If you really struggle to save money, then look at automating your savings. There are apps that’ll automatically round up your card purchases to the nearest pound and put the difference into a savings account. You won’t even notice the money’s gone, but soon enough, you might have enough money to book flights!
Look at Remote Work
Want to really increase the amount of time that you spend on the road? Then take a look at getting a remote job. If you can work from anywhere, then, well, you can be anywhere — and that includes on a tropical island in the Caribbean.
The easiest way to transition to remote work is to ask your boss if you can do so. Most bosses are open to the idea, especially if you can assure them that it’s in their best interests too. If that doesn’t work, then you can always consider finding a new job that allows you to work from anywhere. Once you’ve snagged such a role, you can simply rent your home, pack your bags (including your laptop), and jet off.
