Manchester High School for Girls is celebrating another year of fantastic A-level results, with our departing Senior Sixth students once again doing themselves – and the School – proud.

Well over half of the grades achieved by our students were A* and A. In total, an impressive 86% of all grades were the prestigious “gold standard” A* to B.

Departmental staff will be truly thrilled, with all pupils studying Graphics, Classical Civilisation, Fine Art, German, Music and Latin earning nothing but A*–A grades.  A further set of subjects saw every student achieve at least A*–B: Computing, Drama, English Language, Geography, Further Maths, Psychology, and Religious Studies, meaning all students in 13 subjects gaining the top A*-B grades.

While the statistics speak volumes, the individual stories behind them are truly inspiring.  Maysa, from Wilmslow, was this year’s stand-out all-rounder, achieving a phenomenal five A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and French.  A talented musician as well as a brilliant scientist, she will take up her place at Trinity College, Cambridge in October to read Natural Sciences. Maysa has been a student at Manchester High since joining Reception class at the age of 4. She was thrilled with her results and said “I’ve been part of Manchester High since Reception and have felt truly supported from the very start. The School has played a huge role in shaping my character. I’ve been encouraged to excel academically, but just as importantly, I’ve received incredible support from my teachers and through the many extra curricular opportunities on offer. I’ve grown up with Manchester High and I believe there really is such a thing as a ‘Man High girl’. I’m now excited to be heading to Cambridge to study Natural Sciences.”

Medicine remains a popular and successful pathway for our students, with eight students starting at the most prestigious medical schools next month. There was also remarkable success in other STEM fields with students headed to a range of prestigious Russell Group universities including Durham, Warwick, Imperial College and KCL to pursue subjects such as Data Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.  Nikki, from Manchester achieved three A*s and is thrilled to be studying Maths & Computer Science at Durham. Nikki said “I’m honestly just so happy! All my teachers have been so lovely and supportive throughout – it’s their encouragement that helped me achieve the grades to get here. I feel amazing and so grateful.”

The creative arts, humanities and languages were equally well represented among our top achievers. Sophia, this year’s Warburton Prize winner and gifted musician gained A*s in Music and Psychology alongside an A in Geography, and will continue her studies at King’s College London in Music. She said “I am delighted with my results today. Manchester High has given me the opportunity to take my passion for music further than I ever imagined. I joined the Sixth Form from St Bede’s and have made so many friends here; it’s been an amazing journey.”

Head Mistress Mrs Helen Jeys said: “We are immensely proud of our students’ achievements this year. These results reflect not only their academic excellence but also their dedication, resilience and passion for learning. We wish them every success as they embark on the next stage of their journeys across a wide range of universities.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025 – you have worked incredibly hard, and your achievements shine as brightly as your futures.”
