If you’re heading to the capital and want a hotel that delivers on location, luxury and indulgence, Montcalm Royal London House should be firmly on your radar. Tucked between the buzz of Old Street and the elegance of Finsbury Square, this city-centre escape is as convenient as it is stylish – ideal whether you’re down for business, a romantic weekend, or a food-fuelled city break.

First impressions count, and Montcalm nails them. From the moment we stepped inside, the vibe was slick but warm – contemporary interiors, a calming scent in the air, and front-of-house staff that struck just the right balance between professional and personable. The manager even popped over to greet us on arrival, which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen everywhere these days. It set the tone for a stay that felt considered from start to finish.

The rooms are a mood – literally. With adjustable ambient lighting that lets you tailor your space from energising and fresh to soothing and spa-like. Add the fluffiest robes we’ve slipped into in a while, plus a bed that felt like it was giving us a full-body hug, and you’ve got the perfect city wind-down zone. Whether you’re heading out for drinks or calling it an early one, the room becomes whatever you want it to be.

Dinner was at Aviary, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar, and it’s a scene in itself. Think skyline views, laid-back glamour, and a menu that goes big on seasonal ingredients and bold flavours. We went for the sirloin steak and stone bass—both cooked to perfection, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour. There’s nothing fussy here, just quality produce, confident cooking, and atmosphere.
Cocktails deserve a mention too. From classics with a twist to signature mixes, the drinks were as good as the view. The vibe was buzzy without being overbearing – ideal for lingering long after your plates are cleared.

Morning brought more good things. Breakfast was served with elegance and a side of calm (no chaotic buffets here). Whether you lean savoury, sweet, or somewhere in between, there’s plenty to tempt. We left satisfied and impressed after our veggie breakfasts, and even the coffee hit the spot.
The newly upgraded spa is a peaceful, design-led space that feels miles away from the busy streets outside. Although we didn’t squeeze in a treatment this time, the vibe alone was blissful – think soft lighting, gentle music, and a zen atmosphere that instantly lowers the pulse. It’s the kind of place where time slows down and you forget you’re in the heart of one of the world’s busiest cities.

From its spot-on location to its rooftop dining, atmospheric rooms and polished service, Montcalm Royal London House delivers all the elements of a great city break – without the fuss. The team here have clearly thought about what makes a stay feel special: a warm welcome, standout food, creature comforts, and little details that linger long after check-out.
It’s ideal for couples wanting a stylish base for exploring Shoreditch or shopping in Soho, professionals seeking calm after a packed London schedule, or anyone just after a taste of the high life – without the snobbery.
Would we go back? Absolutely. And next time, we’ll book a spa treatment too.
