Three days of brilliant entertainment on offer at the North-West’s unmissable new festival
Crowds at next month’s The Brit Fest are set to be spoilt for choice with a huge programme of high-octane thrills, family-friendly activities and unmissable entertainment alongside the inaugural festival’s brilliant main music line-up.
The Brit Fest takes place at the Ashley Hall Showground at Altrincham from July 5-7.
And while the festival stages have a packed programme of top music, The Brit Fest is also promising a wide-ranging line-up of amazing entertainment right across its 100-acre festival site.
Thrill-seekers should head to the Action Zone for some high-octane action courtesy of the Extreme Mountain Bike Show featuring five times British Champion and European Champion Danny Butler and his team in a nail-biting show of jaw dropping stunts and agility.
The John Collins Fun Fair promises some of Europe’s most exciting white-knuckle rides, with attractions in the Action Zone and spread across the festival site including the Big Wheel in the Music Arena.
The Action Zone is also the place to head for classic car displays with the opportunity to admire some true British motoring icons – along with the chance to win a new Toyota Aygo.
At the heart of the festival fun is the Village Green which will offer a huge range of unmissable attractions and activities.
It is home to the ABC+ Warranty Free Fall stunt tower where FreeDrop by Stuntbags.com will offer festivalgoers the chance to release their inner daredevil and make like a stuntman by throwing themselves from the top of a high tower and experiencing the ultimate land-based freefall experience.
Civvy 2 Commando has the mission to help bridge the gap between civilians and Commandos, to prepare the next generation of Royal Marines and to give people an authentic experience and taste of what it’s like in that world.
There is also the chance to meet the stars from the Manchester Storm ice hockey team and try to shoot a puck past the goalie, and Altrincham Football Club will also be on hand challenging people to try and score a goal, along with hosting a festival pop up with the latest Altrincham kit among the merchandise range on offer.
Legendary and much-loved British Olympic ski jumper Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards will also be in attendance over the weekend ready to meet festival crowds, as will daredevil Danny Butler, who along with his British and European crowns was the first mountain bike trials rider from the UK to make it to a UCI world final, achieving a ranking in the top three in the world.
Film fans should also head for the Village Green where they will find the Sol Cinema, a solar-powered vintage caravan showing classic British short films all weekend.
And for something a bit more energetic, Samba Espirito is waiting to share some irresistible carnival energy.
Meanwhile big laughs are guaranteed courtesy of a trio of comedians.
Famous for his crowd work, Geordie Geoff is known for his witty one liners, laser dot humour, perceptive descriptions and ability to ‘say it like it is’. Perry Reilly has dazzled audiences across the UK in comedy clubs and at some of the biggest festivals with his clever word play and quick wit. And Michael Frankland offers up unique and witty observations, with delivery as slick and jokes as smart as his suits.
Geordie Geoff and Perry Reilly will appear on Saturday 6 July, and Geordie Geoff and Michael Frankland on Sunday 7 July.
There is a busy programme of events planned over all three days in the Mindful Meadow, starting and finishing each day with yoga sessions which are in addition to the family Good Morning Wake Up sessions with Yogalife on the ABC+ Warranty Stage.
The daily Mindful Meadow programme also includes introductions to reflexology, eco therapy and cacao, sound healing sessions, a sleep retreat, group relaxation and mixed movement groups sessions, along with kids’ craft activities, family crafts and glitter and decoration with The Glam Shack.
Youngsters can relax on beanbags at the Big Hat Tipi Children’s Cinema or enjoy learning about how to build a robot with Mark Haig of Gizmobots who creates amazing and quirky robots from ‘found’ objects.
The Mindful Meadow is also the location for bohemian and vintage clothing, craft fashions, Disneypops Delights, Children’s Adventure Farm Trust and a Samaritans Safe Space.
And it is also where you will find the TimberJacks Axe Throwing where the adventurous can channel their inner lumberjacks and show their skills trying to hit the bullseye on a target.
Take the Manchester Pop Trail by music historian and illustrator Paul Wilde and discover the amazing history and facts about some of the musicians who have played in the North-West.
Meanwhile there are fun rides for little ones in the festival site’s Tinker Town! where families will also discover plenty of games and stalls.
And festivalgoers won’t want to miss the Taste Cheshire Village within the Village Green which will be packed with dozens of local producers and retailers.
They include Manchester’s Zymurgorium Gin, Anna’s Bakery, Abi Through the Ears, Funky Bumbags, Flower Crown Magic, In the Vintage Closet, Lazy Dog Guitars and Unique Metal Works.
All this is in addition to an unmissable mix of British music acts and legendary chart-toppers appearing on the festival’s main stage and who include Bonnie Tyler, Scouting for Girls, Cast, Dodgy, The Feeling, Paul Young, Kim Wilde, Tunde from The Lighthouse Family, T’Pau, Toploader, Fleur East, Heather Small, Sonia and Hot Chocolate.
And there is also a full line-up of bands, choirs, DJs, solo acts, cover outfits, authors, wellness experts and motivational speakers on the site’s ABC+ Warranty Stage including M60, The Covasettes, Prose, Daisy Valentine, Megan Wyn and many more during the three-day event.
The Brit Fest is organised by Olivier nominated brothers Anthony and Edward Prophet.
Anthony Prophet says: “While we’ve brought together an amazing line-up of acts on our music stages, The Brit Fest is also much more than that – it’s a celebration of all things British, from cars, cuisine and comedy to sport and all sorts of other entertainment.
“That is reflected right across the festival site with our huge and carefully considered programme of events, activities and attractions, and I’m confident there’s something there to appeal to every festivalgoer whether they’re seeking an adrenalin rush, a good laugh, to learn something new or they simply want to chill out.
“With summer looking like it is now finally on its way, it’s shaping up to be a brilliant and memorable festival weekend.”
The Brit Fest is sponsored by award-winning, Top 200 UK law firm Myerson, and Partners. Myerson chief executive officer Carl Newton said: “This is an amazing festival in the heart of the community, run by a great team, which is one of the reasons we wanted to get involved.”
Festival Partners are ABC+ Warranty, Delta Hotels, Camden Town Brewery, Ashley Hall Showground, Go Goodwins, LWC and Marlish.
