The Ultimate Guide To Shed Beautification

Making your shed look beautiful isn’t usually something you think about before buying one. But after you get it home, it almost becomes an imperative.

Remember, garden sheds are essentially shells when you buy them. Ultimately, it’s up to you to turn them into something meaningful and useful for you.

But how? What should you be doing?

Give It A Fresh Coat Of Paint

First, you’ll want to give the garden shed a fresh coat of paint. Leaving it as bare wood isn’t ideal (unless your garden has a very specific theme).

Sage green is an excellent and safe option for most gardens. However, you may want to render it in warm terracotta or navy blue (depending on the circumstances).

If you can add trim that complements other architecture around your home, that can help, too. For example, you might paint exterior panelling the same as your soffits or cladding.

Upgrade The Door

You could also try upgrading the door. It’s a small change, but it can have a profound effect on how the outbuilding feels as you approach it and walk into it.

If you can add stylish hardware to the door, that’s even better. Brass knobs and sleek metal improve the aesthetics and make the shed feel more robust.

Illuminate With Outdoor Lighting

Another thing you can do is illuminate the exterior of your shed with outdoor lighting. Putting fairy lights around the doorway or along the roofline can change its appearance substantially.

You can also use panel lighting facing upward at the shed. These give it more presence at night and can help it look more attractive when the sun goes down.

Add A Patio Near The Door

Another tactic is to add a patio near the door to reduce mud and provide a nearby seating area. These arrangements can be ideal for people who are in and out of their sheds all day but don’t want to sit in the building itself.

Patios are suitable for things like tables and chairs. You can also use them as game areas or somewhere to entertain guests, with quick access to your shed nearby.

Include A Vertical Garden

Thinking outside of the box even more, you could add a vertical garden to your shed space. Trellises for plants like clematis or jasmine can be very attractive.

Failing that, you might want to hang pot plants on hooks attached to shed walls. These help break up the exterior facade.

Personalize

Lastly, you could personalise your shed to make it more beautiful. Little touches help it feel more like a part of your home, not just somewhere you put stuff.

For example, you could add birdhouses to the exterior. These provide a safe place for smaller birds in the winter and protect their families during the early spring.

You could also add a chalkboard to the interior for notes. These are handy whenever you want to write something down.

Finally, you could add a weather vane. These are cute, but you can also learn to read them.
