After the success of the inaugural ‘Hale to Hale’ Giant Walk in May, Glossy Magazine is delighted to announce its sponsorship of two dates of this waterside walking marathon when it returns in 2025.
Last year 60 walkers safely completed this endurance walking event, meaning many completing a marathon for the first time, and earned a well-deserved bamboo finishers medal.
Speaking with Glossy Magazine, organiser Marc Duschenes attributed the success of the event to the walkers being well supported from the moment they signed up with route guides and training tips, the route itself being very flat, with plenty of facilities along the way at rest stops beside the Mersey Way, Manchester Ship Canal and TransPennine Trail. So many new friendships were made, the event WhatsApp group is still active all these months later.
The 2025 event will start as the 2024 event did, with a coach ride from Altrincham to Merseyside. Walkers can leave kit bags on the bus (which has a WC on board!), which will meet the group every hour or so with a longer stop for a picnic and fundraising opportunity in Stockton Heath. During the walk, participants are able to spread into three groups, each with an expert group leader, depending on their walking speed, and the organisers will again have a mobile leader on a bike chalking out directions and even carrying spare kit.

All walkers are expected to fundraise and can do so for any charity of their choice. Last May £10,000 was raised for charities including The Christie, Cancer Research UK, Brain Tumour Research, MS Society, The Friendship Circle, Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support, Search and Rescue and St Ann’s Hospice.
Two dates have been released for 2025 (10 May and 11 May) and tickets are on sale now at giantwalk.org.
An entry level half-marathon option starting at noon in Stockton Heath is also available and suitable for families. Private, corporate or CSR day walks are also available from the organisers.
