A delightful ‘poem and pictures’ book by Altrincham-based illustrator and poet Pam Bradshaw has been published by the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership.
The book, “Travels with Hare and Rabbit,” takes readers on a charming journey along the Mid Cheshire Railway Line. Published by the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership (MCCRP), the book is available for free (whilst stocks last) at all staffed stations along the line.
The idea for the book grew from a conversation between Pam Bradshaw and Bev Robinson, a volunteer with Friends of Altrincham Interchange, about the popular poetry board at the station. This led to the creation of the adorable characters, Hare and Rabbit, who guide readers on their train adventure. Written, and illustrated by Altrincham-based artist Pam Bradshaw, the book uses captivating rhymes and colourful pictures to showcase the many attractions and locations found along the railway. Pam Bradshaw, a former Head of Art and Design, brings her artistic talents and love for the area to life for a younger audience.
Pam Bradshaw said “I am delighted to work with Mid Cheshire Railway Partnership and publish this book. As an Altrincham resident, it was lovely for me to revisit some of the walks, parks and events that can be found along the line. The characters of Hare and Rabbit have great fun travelling on the train and encapsulate friendship and a sense of fun and adventure that appeals to our younger audience”.
Bev Robinson, of Friends of Altrincham Interchange, said, “Our poetry board on platform 4 is a popular feature of Altrincham station and often features poems by Pam. One day, we got chatting (as you do!) and both thought there was a great opportunity for a wider book that featured all the stations along the line. We are delighted to see the book finally in print.”
Sarah Muir, Community Rail Officer, for the Mid Cheshire Railway line said, “We are excited to bring the community Travels with Hare and Rabbit. Thanks, must also be extended to my predecessor Steve Forde who originally worked with Pam and Bev, and Stephen Evans for his much-needed technical advice. The result is a book that is both appealing and inspiring to young children”.
Schools (along the line) can contact Sarah Muir if they wish to order a bulk delivery of the books. In early 2025 there will be a formal book launch with Pam Bradshaw and four workshops are planned with local primary schools. These workshops will be delivered by Pam Bradshaw and Stephen Evans and depending on the age group, they will focus on either writing poetry or drawing.
