Dakota is just a few minutes’ walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station, so we hopped off the train and set off on foot, excited to visit this distinctive city-centre hotel, bar and restaurant…

Comfortably seated in the upmarket dining room, we sipped on a bottle of Primitivo Tramari Rosé and enjoyed an amuse-bouche of sweet puréed carrot and suede with contrasting crispy croutons and crusty bread with a tangy tomato and goat’s cheese accompaniment – delicious.
For the next course, we delved into a Caprese salad, complete with a whole gooey burrata and tri-colour tomatoes, and a crispy duck salad topped with watermelon, cashews and sesame.
We were then delivered two 340g, melt-in-the-mouth sirloin steaks, one with garlic butter and one with bone marrow jus. They arrived with fries, Tenderstem broccoli with chilli, soy and garlic, a creamy and a flavoursome bowl of buttery truffle mash, and – our personal favourite – courgette fritters with parmesan.
After a break (and the undoing of some buttons), we were served a creamy crème brûlée with homemade shortbread biscuits – heavenly.
