Peak Indulgence: A Cheeky Escape to Buxton Crescent

If your idea of a good weekend is slipping into a fluffy robe, sipping fizz, and floating between saunas and steam rooms, then allow us to introduce you to your new obsession: Buxton Crescent Hotel.

This grand Georgian beauty has had a serious glow-up thanks to a multi-million-pound makeover, and it’s now the Peak District’s most glamorous spot for spa lovers. Forget hiking boots (unless you really must) – this is all about thermal waters, rooftop pools and the kind of pampering that makes Monday emails feel very far away.

We checked in for an overnight stay and immediately understood the hype. The spa is the beating heart of the hotel, with everything from bio saunas to a star-lit relaxation pool. My personal highlight? Watching the drizzle fall from the comfort of the heated rooftop pool. My husband took the treatment route – a full body scrub that left him glowing like he’d been gently buffed by angels.

Upstairs, our suite was all high ceilings, original fireplaces, and one very tempting roll-top bath. A four-poster king bed sealed the deal: this is not the kind of room you check out of easily.

Dinner at 1789 Restaurant was equally indulgent. Think prawns in garlic butter, melt-in-the-mouth steak, and a sticky figgy pudding so good it should come with a warning. Let’s just say we left the table pleasantly full and very smug about our life choices.

Buxton itself is charming – perched on the edge of the Peaks, surrounded by rolling hills and fresh Derbyshire air. You could hike, bike, or horse ride… but honestly, why would you, when there’s a Finnish sauna calling your name?

This is a hotel that knows how to balance history with hedonism. It’s opulent without being stuffy, indulgent without the guilt. A place to relax, restore, and maybe raise a glass or two.

Want the full lowdown on our stay, including the finer details of the spa, the cocktails, and exactly how many pools we managed to try? You’ll find the complete review – and plenty of inspo for your next escape – in Glossy’s October issue.
