Pupils at The Manchester Grammar School are celebrating another year of exceptional GCSE examination results.

Pupils James and Jayden achieved exceptional GCSE results, each securing a full set of Grade 9s.

James will be studying French, Italian, History and Music at A Level. A talented musician, he is an active member of the MGS Orchestra, Big Band and Thursday Singers, and most recently played the role of Enjolras in the School’s acclaimed production of Les Misérables.

Jayden will be studying Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Economics and Italian. Alongside his academic achievements, he plays both Hockey and Basketball for the School, has completed his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, and contributes as a Language Ambassador, encouraging others to pursue languages and supporting younger pupils in their studies.

49% of all GCSE grades were at the very highest grade 9 level and 73% of all grades achieved were 9 or 8 (the equivalent of an A*). Just a few of the many highlights: 87% of Latin, 85% of Religious Studies, 81% of Further Maths, 79% of Electronics, and 74% of Music results were graded at the highest level of 9.

These GCSE results follow another outstanding set of A-level results for MGS pupils last week, with 37% of all grades at A* and 93% at A*, A or B.

This level of performance puts MGS in a very select group of schools nationally.

The School’s High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, said, “We are very proud of this group of pupils having achieved such outstanding results. Our boys can now approach the next exciting stage of their academic careers with real confidence. I would like to thank our dedicated staff for the work they have done to support our pupils through their GCSEs.”
