Refreshing Your Household After The Holidays - A Guide

The end-of-year holidays bring warmth, joy, and usually quite a bit of chaos to our homes. Once the festivities wind down, many of us look around and feel a bit dazed by the aftermath. Time flies while you’re having fun, but it can also be a little bit deflating.

You might see scattered decorations, mystery stains on the carpet, and that lingering scent of pine needles and cinnamon all remind us that January calls for a fresh start. Don’t worry, a spring clean can feel wonderful! You just have to plan the effort a little.

Moreover, refreshing your home doesn’t have to be something you dread, it can be fun, like waking up your space, and by extension you, from your holiday hibernation. If you put together a clear plan, you can transform your home back into the peaceful haven it was before the entire family came around to celebrate.

Let’s consider a few tips for you to achieve this wonderful outcome:

Clear Away The Holiday Evidence

It’s fine if you throw away that wrapping paper (or better recycle it), but it’s good to see what else you can do. You might pack away your decorations thoughtfully, as future you will appreciate the organization. That means taking time to group similar items together, and then wrapping delicate ornaments carefully, with labels so it’s all neatly paplied. This is also the perfect time to let go of decorations you didn’t use this year. Someone else might love that light-up reindeer that’s been sitting in its box for three seasons, or maybe the fake Christmas tree you have is a little worse for wear now, and you can try a real one for novelty sake next time around.

Deep Clean The Gathering Spaces

Holiday parties leave their mark, especially on floors and furniture. Those helpful stone floor cleaning services you’ve been considering might be worth exploring now. Focus on areas where people tended to come together, like living rooms, dining areas, and kitchens , which usually need the most attention. This is a little odd too, but ceiling fans and light fixtures collect more dust during the winter months when windows stay closed.

Reset Your Kitchen

Holiday cooking pushes our kitchens to their limits what with all the proteins and carbs being eaten. Not to mention all the snacks and leftovers you’ve been carrying in the fridge. As such, now’s the time to properly clean out the fridge, wipe down the rarely-reached cabinet tops, and reorganize your pantry or larder depending on how your kitchen is set up. Check for any specialty ingredients you bought for holiday recipes, too and either use them soon or donate them to someone who will. Your kitchen should feel ready for regular meals again, not like it’s still waiting for the next feast or constantly haunted by the ghost of Christmas past.

With this advice, you’ll no doubt find a lot to rejuvenate you after the holidays, and all it took was a good time, and the willingness to enjoy a clean slate after.
