Set on the beautiful Pale Hall Estate in the market town of Bala, The Bryntirion Inn is a 300-year-old Welsh pub that perfectly blends heritage charm with refined country hospitality.
Recently refurbished, the inn retains its traditional character, with exposed beams, original stone walls and roaring log fires creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Throughout the space, co-owner Tony Barney’s collection of classic car and motorsport memorabilia adds a distinctive and personal touch.

Earlier this year, acclaimed chef Luke Selby joined owners Anthony and Donna Barney as Chef Partner at Pale Hall, taking the reins at The Bryntirion Inn – affectionately known as The Bryn – alongside Head Chef Ethan Cleary. The result is a menu that elevates classic pub dishes while staying true to the comforting spirit of a great country inn.
Our visit began with a relaxed lunch enjoyed from the comfort of a deep Chesterfield sofa. Chicken wings, barbecue sausages, freshly baked focaccia and perfectly crisp fries were simple but delicious. The ideal way to start a weekend in Snowdonia.
A short stroll up to nearby Pale Hall allowed us to explore the stunning estate grounds before returning to The Bryn in time for dinner. The menu offered tempting starters including crispy fried chicken wings with gochujang and lime, cream of celeriac soup with truffle oil, and chicken liver parfait with plum chutney and toasted sourdough.
Mains showcased the best of local produce, with dishes such as braised lamb pie with mashed potato and vegetables, confit cod with leeks, Jerusalem artichoke and brown shrimp, and Welsh Black sirloin served with sautéed mushrooms and fries. Desserts ranged from rhubarb and custard tart with candied ginger to rich chocolate delice and homemade ice creams.

Breakfast is another highlight. Delivered to your room in a charming basket, it includes freshly baked croissants and focaccia, cheeses, meats, cereals and fresh orange juice – a wonderfully relaxed start to the day.
Just a short drive away, the picturesque town of Llangollen offers independent shops, cafés and bakeries, making it an ideal morning excursion before returning to The Bryn for a memorable Sunday lunch. Roast lamb, pork loin or rump of beef are served with all the traditional trimmings – generous, comforting and perfectly cooked.
Just two hours from Manchester, The Bryntirion Inn offers the perfect countryside escape. With cosy rooms, exceptional food and warm Welsh hospitality, it’s the kind of place that quickly turns a weekend visit into plans for the next.
Rooms from £140 per night.
