How Clarkson Bespoke’s Managing Director transformed her own home into a space that works beautifully for everyday life.
When Shelley Clarkson, Managing Director of Clarkson Bespoke, turned her attention to her own home, she had the opportunity to apply the same level of thought and craftsmanship that goes into every project she creates for clients.
The project involved a carefully considered extension alongside a complete renovation of the existing property, rethinking how the home worked as a whole.The original layout had become restrictive, particularly around the kitchen and dining areas. Extending the space created a more generous and connected environment, allowing cooking, dining and entertaining to flow naturally together.
As with any project, there were challenges to overcome. Restricted access and the inability to use skips meant materials and waste had to be managed carefully, with recycling considered wherever possible; however, rather than being a barrier, these practical challenges simply became part of the design process.
Bespoke cabinetry, carefully chosen hardware, considered lighting and tactile materials bring warmth and character to the newly configured spaces. The overall look is refined without feeling overly styled, with personality coming through in the details. Importantly, the refurbishment also respects the character of the original property, combining it with a more modern sense of space, light and connection.
Designing her own home also gave Shelley the opportunity to think about the things that matter most in everyday life, creating spaces that work just as well for quiet moments as they do for entertaining. The finished home is thoughtful, personal and beautifully considered, reflecting both theproperty and the designer behind it.
