Winter illnesses and unexpected injuries rarely arrive at a convenient time. Thankfully, expert help is close at hand.
Winter is the season when coughs, colds and unexpected injuries have a habit of appearing at the least convenient moment. For busy Cheshire families, finding prompt medical care can often be as stressful as the injury or illness itself. That’s where The Wilmslow Hospital’s Minor Injury and Illness Unit offers a valuable alternative, providing same-day appointments for adults and children aged three and over.
Prompt care for busy lives
Open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, the service is designed for those occasions when expert medical attention can’t wait for a routine appointment, whether it’s a sports injury, a suspected fracture, a burn, or a minor illness. Staffed by experienced and friendly Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), the unit combines rapid access to assessment, diagnostics and treatment in a calm, private setting.
“The ladies I saw today were very kind and helpful. I felt cared for and welcomed, and nothing was too much trouble for them.”

Assessment, diagnostics and treatment in one place
A particular benefit of the service is access to on-site diagnostics, including X-rays and MRI scans. Rather than attending multiple appointments across different locations, patients can often have investigations arranged as part of a single visit so they can get answers quickly and move on with their day.
The unit treats a range of non-life-threatening conditions, including:
• Sprains and strains
• Sports injuries
• Minor burns and wounds
• Suspected fractures
“Amazing service. I was able to access X-ray services without a five-hour wait and be straight back on my bike. This time saving is worth its weight in gold.”
While the service provides prompt access to care, it is not a replacement for A&E. Anyone experiencing serious symptoms, such as chest pain, severe breathing difficulties or signs of a stroke, should call 999 or attend their nearest emergency department.
The service is available on a self-pay basis, with an initial appointment costing £120. For patients with a suspected fracture, a dedicated fracture package is available for £250 and includes a consultation and X-ray. Should further treatment be required, patients can be fast-tracked to the appropriate specialist consultant at The Wilmslow Hospital, either on a self-pay basis or through their private medical insurance.
For those occasions when life throws up the unexpected, having access to expert healthcare, diagnostics and treatment, all in one place, can make all the difference.
