How to Look Good and Stay Safe on the Beach

Heading off for a relaxing beach break? Whether you’re staying close to home or taking a flight to blue water bliss, it’s important that you stay safe in the sun while you’re busy having fun. Here are a few things that will help you with that.

1. Modesty is Chic

First off, let’s talk beachwear. If bikinis or swim trunks feel like too little fabric for too much exposure, don’t worry. The fashion gods have blessed us with stylish modest dresses and coverups that can make you look like a beach deity without baring it all. Flowing kaftans, maxi dresses, and sarongs not only look stunning but also protect your skin from the sun’s kisses (which, let’s be honest, can feel more like bites).

2. Sunscreen: Your Loyal Protector

Think of sunscreen as your knight in shining armour, protecting your skin from the UV dragon. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher before you head out and reapply every two hours, or after your impersonation of a dolphin in the sea. Want to stay youthful and cancer-free? Don’t skimp on the screen!

3. Hydration: Keep Your Cool

Staying hydrated when you travel is like giving your body a continuous internal shower. With all the sunbathing, volleyball, and making the sea your personal splash zone, you’re going to need more H2O than usual. Jazz it up with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint if plain water bores your taste buds.

4. Shady Deals

A glamorous, wide-brimmed hat not only ups your style game but also throws shade in the best way possible—on your face. Pair it with UV protection sunglasses to keep those harmful rays out of your eyes and avoid the squinty crab look. Plus, who doesn’t look mysteriously alluring peering out from under a big hat?

5. Footwear: Don’t Get Burned

Ever tried sprinting across hot sand barefoot? Yeah, it’s a free foot sauna that ends with a hobble. Rock a pair of stylish flip-flops or sandals to keep your soles cool and protected from the sand’s scorching heat. Plus, they can keep you safe from hidden sharp objects and beach critters who aren’t thrilled about your visit.

6. Tame Your Tresses

Beach hair can look great when it’s all lazy waves, but it can also tend to have a mind of its own, and get all dry and frizzy. So, it’s a good idea to tie it back or clip it up into a messy bun before you hit the water. Putting a little leave-in moisturiser in before you head to the shore can also help to keep it sleek so you get the right kind of beach waves.

7. Post-Beach Care

Once you’ve enjoyed your day of sun and sea, it’s important that you remember to keep taking good care of your skin because the sun’s rays can be damaging long after you’ve left your lounger. Start by using a hydrating moisturiser (aloe vera is good) that will hydrate your skin and soothe any burns you might have gotten. Exfoliate weekly, and keep applying that SPF even if the sun isn’t exactly splititng the trees, and you will be good.

After a day of sea and sun, pamper your skin with aloe vera or a hydrating moisturizer. It’s like apologizing to your skin with a spa day after making it face the elements. Your skin will thank you by not turning into a peeling, red mess.

When you know you’re safe, you can really sit back, listen to the waves as they lap the shore, and relax on the beach!
