LOCKDOWN HAIR DIVINE

Don’t let the lockdown take its toll on your hair…beat the stress and make sure your Hair looks Divine.

Figures from the ONS (Office for National Statistics) have highlighted that levels of anxiety have increased sharply during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially during the lockdowns. With one comment:

“There is understandable concern about the impact of the pandemic on people’s well-being. Our figures show that the equivalent of 19 million adults in Great Britain report high levels of anxiety.”

Stress at its worst can be associated with hair loss. It’s a fact that we all need – now more than ever – to do all we can to look after our wellbeing, which includes our hair.

If you’re suffering with cabin fever it could be time to incorporate a simple and realistic routine to truly care for your hair during the lockdown. Healthy, nourished hair will also makes you feel better on the inside. Here are a few tips:

  • Keep your hair clean

Frequent shampooing, every two to three days, is important to hair growth because it helps to keep the scalp area clean and in good condition – and a healthy scalp encourages the growth of healthy strands. A flaky scalp can cause hair loss, so it is important to keep your scalp clear.

  • Select your hair products carefully

Avoid heavy-weight, oil-rich shampoos, as these can weigh fine hair down and choose a volumising shampoo that adds immediate body and texture to make you look and feel amazing! There’s also no need to wash your hair every day as frequent washing can actually encourage your hair to produce more oil. Healthy hair begins with the scalp, so be extra gentle when washing; massage the scalp gently for a few minutes to stimulate blood flow, which in turn stimulates hair growth. And be gentle even when drying it – don’t rub vigorously. It’s good to apply a tiny amount of light hair oil to the hair ends after washing, and when the hair is still wet.

  • Use less heat

Lockdown presents the perfect time for using less heat on your hair. Time to wave goodbye to the dryers, curlers and straighteners, and to embrace updos and natural locks. With no place to go, and no one to impress – make the most of this opportunity. If you have to blow-dry or straighten your hair, then make sure you use a heat protection product.

  • Keep it trim

If you feel confident, then why not opt for a DIY haircut? Don’t be drastic, but you could tidy a fringe with a pair of eyebrow or moustache scissors or trim split ends to keep your hair in tip top condition. Make sure the scissors are sharp, so as not to damage the hair.

  • Cover it up!

If your roots are driving you mad or you are struggling with the grey hairs, then headbands and scarves are a great way to cover up until you can get back to the salon.

  • Get more sleep

We have said it before, but a restorative night’s sleep is vital. It can support protein synthesis of the hair and the release of enzymes and growth hormones. And don’t go to bed with wet hair – it’s not good for the hair.

  • Balanced Diet

A healthy diet can help your hair stay strong and shiny and if you’re not getting certain nutrients from food, you might see the effects on your hair, including potential hair loss. Essential fatty acids, especially omega-3s, play a key role in the health of your skin, hair, and nails. These can be found in foods such as fish, nuts and seeds. Read more information here:
