The five-star NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace is situated in the oldest part of Amsterdam, behind the restored façade of 19 authentic 17th-century buildings, just opposite Amsterdam’s Centraal Station and a five-minute’s walk from Dam Square. Trendsetting shops and famous attractions are accessible both on foot and via public transport.

268 rooms are spread over six floors and include a range of suites and apartments. The rooms are classic in style and have plenty of space and climate control; many offer first-class views of Amsterdam. The premium rooms and junior suites are unique, with some split-level Junior suites, with stairs to access the higher level. If you are travelling as a group, the apartments are ideal, because they have their own kitchen, or small families may prefer interconnecting rooms.

In the morning. head to the breakfast room for the signature NH Collection buffet breakfast, which offers a huge spread of hot and cold dishes, fresh fruit, juice, pastries, and eggs cooked to your liking. In the evening, it doesn’t get much better (if you fancy treating yourself) than the Michelin-starred Restaurant Vermeer for a truly culinary sensation. For pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap, Bar, Bottles & Jars serves everything from cocktails to light snacks and stays open late, so it’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day.

With such a range of transport options available across the city, it’s no surprise that driving is actively discouraged in Amsterdam. Walking tours, canal cruises and bicycles are your best options for exploring the city’s historic streets and winding waterways.

Rain is part and parcel of daily life in Amsterdam, but that’s no excuse to stop you immersing yourself in Dutch heritage at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum. You can keep kids entertained at the Nemo Science Museum or book a hop-on, hop-off tour to discover Amsterdam from a dry seat on a closed-top, double-decker bus.

Experience local culture by getting cosy in an Amsterdam coffee shop, have a drink in one of the city’s traditional pubs or sample plenty of tasters at the former Heineken brewery.

Tuck into local cuisine with an authentic Amsterdam dinner at DeHallen’s covered food market or a personalised dining experience in the home of a local. You won’t be short of things to do in Amsterdam.

This luxurious five-star hotel is situated perfectly to explore the city on foot. The rooms are clean and spacious with great views of the city. The food is delicious, the staff exceptionally friendly and the service is excellent. I would recommend requesting a higher floor room, simply because there is sometimes noise from people passing late at night. But apart from that, a fabulous stay. Thank you!
