Ask the Expert: Emma Gorton - Team leader, Belong at Home Didsbury and Altrincham

A highly accomplished manager, Emma is passionate about making a difference to the lives of older people – particularly those living with dementia. With personal experience caring for a loved one, she combined previous professional expertise with an ambition to provide the highest standard of care for the benefit of everyone in the local community.

What services do you provide?

We support older people to live as independently as possible with one-to-one personal care, housekeeping, food preparation, as well as running errands, facilitating excursions and offering companionship. It’s often known as community care or domiciliary care.

Do you have experience with dementia?

Belong is a dementia specialist and so our team is highly trained and experienced working with people living with the condition. We also have a free Admiral Nurse service for customers, provided in partnership with Dementia UK. These specialist dementia nurses assist families to navigate the course of dementia.

Which areas do you cover?

Our team works in and around south Manchester, typically covering Didsbury, Burnage and the Heatons, as well as the Sale/Altrincham region, including Bowdon, Hale, Hale Barns and Timperley. We cover other areas too and can advise as needed.

What makes you different from other providers?

Firstly, we are not-for-profit which enables us to focus on providing the best possible care for our customers. We are the only non-profit operator to have been named in the country’s Top 20 Large & Mid-size Home Care Groups for seven years running, taking the number one spot last year. We can also support customers to access facilities and a vibrant programme of events and activities at our Didsbury care village, Belong Morris Feinmann. This means clients and families become part of the Belong community and can tap into amenities including bistro, hair salon and a gym with in-house exercise and rehabilitation specialists. There is also a varied activities and experiences programme featuring music, arts and crafts, clubs and day trips.
